Subway Sandwiches

Wow, was Jared right?

I've started eating Subway Sandwiches instead of my normal McFare. Instead of a hamburger and fries, I'm chowing down on a turkey sub with lots of vegetables.
They have lettuce, tomato, black olives, pickles, peppers (green, banana and jalapeno), spinach and cucumber! To check this against the volumetrics diet system, if you divide the number of calories in a sandwich (280 for the six inch turkey breast) by the weight in grams (225 for that sandwich), and get a number close to or less than two, I'm doing great--- and I am, with 280/225 being about 1.25! (of course that doesn't include cheese or dressing).

I don't need the cheese or mayo for a delicious sandwich; I'm getting the deli mustard (lower in fats) and having them put it on one of their seven grain bread options. If I get iced tea or water instead of my soda, I'm practically eating healthy! Of course, sometimes I get the cheese. They'll toast it too, making it a turkey melt sort of tasty meal.

You can do your own calculations

Volumetrics

Oh this isn't going to be as bad as I thought.

Volumetrics is the idea of eating things that take up a lot of space in my (large) belly. Lots of fiber, fresh fruits, vegetables and water. Not so much cheese and nuts, though. There's a nice volumetrics food list over here. I was worried that I was going to be counting points, eating two of those teeny little diet lunches, trying to make my meals all grapefruit.

I hate grapefruit.

But instead, I've got to guzzle my water down and eat this apple, then I should be ok to go eat that slice of pizza. It's all about filling up on volume.

And the Wii wasn't so bad this morning. I was down half a pound. I'm going to start easy, doing yoga every morning and then one of the aerobic games. Getting this thing whittled down!

Tuesday

Oh God, the Wii

My wife bought me a Wii Fit for Christmas. She thinks we'll work together to get in shape. But that snarky little voice ... "please stand on the board ..OH!" is getting on my nerves. I can barely stand on one foot for that balance check.

But the games are kind of fun; I like flapping like a chicken, and then of course I need a shower. I hope tomorrow's going to be better.

I'll post tomorrow about this new diet she wants me on. I don't know how I can face my doughnuts again.
